Native Instruments + Izotope and now Pro Tools?
The private equity firm that’s a major investor in Native Instruments and Izotope is now bidding to acquire AVID, home of Pro Tools.
This obviously would be interesting as we see a consolidation of some the major music production software out there.
In the end hope this would benefit consumers.
TikTok announces music competition for Unsigned Acts
Aimed at truly unsigned artists, TikTok is launching a global campaign to discover unsigned hype. TikTok’s goal is “to discover new musical talent and support aspiring music creators.”
Entry is simple, just post a 30 second or longer video with the hashtag #GIMMETHEMIC between August 7 and August 16.
Prizes vary with the first place receiving a trophy and 50,000 diamonds which is part of TikTok’s currency system.
YouTube Music Celebrates 50 Years of HipHop
As you may know this is the 50th year of HipHop. As part of that, Youtube is celebrating with a number of activities including:
Fifty Deep Playlists: a playlits spotlighting over two thousand hiphop videos that had a significant impact on the culture.
Type Beat Yoodle: A youtube doodle paying homage to the subculture of typebeats
Hip Hop 50 Live concert at Yankee Stadium
Google Arts & Culture Hip Hop Hub. The FIFTY DEEP music collection will be part of Google Arts & Culture’s new hub.
Worth keeping an eye on Youtube to see how this plays out.

Pretty cool move from Ohmforce. All legacy plugins are free (the catch is they are free from support as well). Worth taking a look if you’re looking for some new plugins.

Threads needs to do more work to get musicians
Solid write up from MusicAlly. They took a look at top musicians who joined Threads during the launch and how they are using it now. Spoiler alert: most of the aren’t.
It seemed like to me, Meta used it’s power, influence, and probably money to get high profile celebs including musicians, to get on Threads early. Sure that helps generate buzz, but you need a lot more to maintain it.
Twitter, I mean X, takes over @music
Speaking of music on social platforms, Twitter X took over the @music handle. Not sure what this means but seeing how Elon wants X to be the “everything” platform, I can see some sort of music service happening here.
Social media companies are constantly trying to get in and win the music wars and looks like X is no different.
